Cheryl H. Barber
Development Director, Baptist Children’s Services
 
Cheryl H. Barber was elected to American Baptist Homes & Caring Ministries Board of Trustees in January 2006, representing Baptist Children’s Services, a ministry serving homeless youth in southeastern Pennsylvania. Ms. Barber adds diversity and spirit to the board, bringing 20 years of experience in the discipline of development and institutional advancement.
 
As Development Director of Baptist Children’s Services, Ms. Barber oversees direct mail campaigns, special events, publications, and database management. She is responsible for the growth and sustainability of all BCS funding initiatives, including foundation and corporate support, major gifts and prospective donors. Ms. Barber is the founder and editor of Benevolence, Baptist Children’s Services quarterly newsletter, and is actively involved in the organization as a volunteer and contributor. 
 
Prior to Baptist Children’s Services, Ms. Barber worked in various development capacities in arts and culture and education. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, with a minor in Accounting from Cheyney University, prior to obtaining a Certificate in Fundraising from the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious College of Non-Profit Management.

Timothy W. Bartos
President and CEO, Baptist Health System, Inc.
 
As President and CEO of the not-for-profit umbrella organization Baptist Health Services, Timothy W. Bartos leads several organizations—Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Inc., Baptist Health Family Medical Care, Inc., Baptist Health Family Medical Care, Inc., Baptist Health System Foundation, Inc. and The Nurse Connection Staffing, Inc.
 
Mr. Bartos graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Health Care Administration and is a New York State-Certified Preceptor for Nursing Home Administrator In Training students. He has numerous professional affiliations including as a board member of the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and First Vice President of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He also serves as a mentor for Society’s Team In Training Program. He is a fellow and certified administrator in the American College Of Health Care Administrators.
 
Mr. Bartos hosts a weekly television news segment on local CBS affiliate, WRGB, “Six On Seniors,” covering stories and issues of interest to older adults. He considers it his personal calling to be part of Baptist Health Services faith-based mission-driven organization that embraces growth, change and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people.

The Rev. Dr. Douglas Hargis
Chaplain, Riverview Estates, the Baptist Home of South Jersey in Riverton, NJ
 
Dr. Hargis is a 1973 graduate of ABC-related, Eastern College in St. Davids, Penn. where he received a BA in philosophy. Following his college education, Doug attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts and graduated in 1976 with a Master of Divinity degree. He is also a 1989 graduate of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois where he received the Doctor of Ministry degree in church growth.
 
Over the years before his current service, Dr. Hargis held six pastorates in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. While in Ohio, Doug was “Adjunct Staff in Church Growth” for the American Baptist Churches of Ohio. This involved consulting with churches in Ohio that wanted assistance in planning for church growth.
 
Dr. Hargis and his wife Beth have three grown children, Jonathan, Emily and Gregory. He enjoys golf, bowling, fishing and playing the guitar.

Jimmie H. Smith, ACSW, LSW
Executive Director, Kids Hope United
 
Jimmie H. Smith serves as executive director for Kids Hope United – Northern Region. Founded in 1895 as Central Baptist Family Services and renamed in 2005, the agency provides a broad-based continuum of community-based human services throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, where Mr. Smith oversees 23 program offices.
 
Early in his career while serving Illinois county and state-level children and family services organizations, Mr. Smith established one of the first case review systems that resulted in a substantial reduction in the number of children residing in residential and foster care. While there, he also established the first on-call, 24-hour emergency response system for the Department of Children and Family Services in Northern Illinois.
 
Mr. Smith has served in various administrative positions over his 28 years at Kids Hope United - Northern Region. He is noted for his quest for excellence, his advocacy for children and families and his child-centered, family-focused and community-based perspective in service delivery. He models and cultivates a positive, creative, disciplined, collaborative and results-oriented approach to management and programmatic dilemmas and major change efforts.
 
Mr. Smith is a graduate of Carthage College where he held a double major in Political Science and Business Administration. He holds a Master of Arts from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. Mr. Smith’s other training includes a certificate earned at the National Child Welfare Leadership Center, School of Social Work University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an executive management and leadership certificate from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.
 
Mr. Smith’s particular areas of expertise include entrepreneurial leadership of child welfare agencies, agency expansion and growth, leadership development and management training, executive coaching, mergers and acquisitions and managing change efforts.

Kathy Yager-Krol
Administrator, Springbrook 

Kathy Yager-Krol is a well-known resident of Milford and a senior administrator at Springbrook (formerly the Upstate Home). She brings 30 years professional experience to the ABHCM board and represents Springbrook during her tenure. Kathy and her husband have three children, Michael, Krista and Jay. They reside on her parent’s family farm in Milford, NY.

Springbrook is recognized nationally by the American Baptist Churches USA as a worthy not-for-profit business doing the missionary work of providing homes, family and caring services for others. Springbrook makes the difference for more than 1000 individuals and families facing the challenge of developmental disabilities.  At Springbrook "learning never ends, challenges are conquered, and dependence is transformed into independence" through a unique array of family-centered programs and services that help the agency make a lifetime commitment to the people it serves.

Springbrook serves individuals and families from across and beyond New York State with programs including a highly respected residential school, community and home services, group community homes, and daycare services. Springbrook employs 700.
