As part of re-establishing the position of executive director of American Baptist Homes and Caring Ministries, the ABHCM board has begun to set priorities for the new director. The board has asked me, as the interim executive director, to put into effect those priorities that are in need of immediate attention.
First, in an effort to fulfill the board’s goal of reconnecting with membership, I visited seven of our member sites in and around the Seattle area before and after the recent board meeting.
Second, the board has decided to further develop the relationships which ABHCM has fostered with similar faith-based social ministries during the past 10 years. To that end, I recently participated in face-to-face meetings with the Mennonite Health Alliance and the United Methodist Association.
Third, the board has committed to renewing ABHCM’s relationship with American Baptist Home Mission Societies. At this stage, we are examining where we might have mutual goals, where we can share and participate in programs, and what kinds of technical support ABHMS can offer us. My hope is that we can initiate this discussion with ABHMS this month.
Peace and blessings,
The Rev. Garth Brokaw
ABHCM President of the Board
