Since ABHCM’s earliest days, a primary focus has been caring for the most vulnerable segment of the population — children.
Baptist Children’s Services, now headquartered in Valley Forge, Pa., is one of the organizations that has formed the bedrock of ABHCM’s children’s services. Now known as BCS YES!, it began its legacy of service in 1873, when, upon her death, a young girl bequeathed her savings of 90 cents for the purpose of caring for poor and homeless children.
In 1879, that mission was formalized with the establishment of the Baptist Orphanage of Philadelphia. Throughout the end of the 19th century and into the 20th, the organization grew and transformed from the orphanage model to one that provides group homes and emergency shelters.
Those entities now provide care, comfort and shelter to nearly 600 children throughout Philadelphia and its surrounding counties.
BCS YES! is only one example of how the members of ABHCM help spread Christ’s
message of love to those in need — especially the most helpless among us. Find out more about the organization and the services it provides at www.baptistchildrensservices.org.
